TEAM

The Running Club is a team of former high school athletes and novice runners who meet regularly to train and race in cross country, indoor track, outdoor track, and road races. The club is part of the National Intercollegiate Running Club Association in the Midwest Region and races against teams from UM, Michigan State, WMU and GVSU. We love everything about running, and welcome every skill level from newbie to seasoned ultramarathoner.  Sprinters and field athletes are welcome as well!

MISSION

The Hillsdale Running Club aims to provide runners of all skill levels with the opportunity to connect, train, and grow together. Through goal setting, participation in local races, and fostering a supportive community, we strive to challenge ourselves and promote the physical, mental, and social benefits of running across campus.

COMMITMENT

The club organizes a 4 day training schedule, multiple racing opportunities per semester, and volunteers for community running events. We run year round with the cross country, indoor track, outdoor track seasons. All training and racing opportunities are voluntary, athletes can choose how much to train and if they want to challenge themselves to a race.

TRYOUTS

All undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for membership, and can join us at any time for workouts and/or races. There are no try-outs, time trials, or cuts. Any non-student member of the Hillsdale College community is welcome to join us for workouts.

Katie Edison, Hillsdale Running Club Co-Founder & President

“Running is the most popular high school sport in the US, yet only 5% go on to run in college. We have a vast talent pool in our student body. Many feel they have “unfinished business” on the cross country course or track, and want to achieve another PR, while others take up running for the first time once they see our beautiful country roads. The running club is a place to bring runners together to run for fun or to meet a personal goal.”

Dr. Charles Steele, Hillsdale Running Club Advisor & Ultramarathoner

“Humans have endurance that goes beyond any other animal.  When I’m out running…I’m living in a way that I feel like I’m more alive than in just about anything else I do….there’s no place I’d rather be.”
