Spiritual Life
The formation of character is a key part of the College’s mission, and many students lean on their faith to grow in this area. We have no mandatory statement of faith on campus, but students have created many opportunities for fellowship, discipleship, and spiritual development, as you can see in the list below. Additionally, our chaplain is available to provide spiritual counsel, direction, and instruction to individuals or groups during the week.

Society of St. Stephen
The Society is a small group of students, men and women, committed to following a common rule of life together in service to Christ. The rule consists of the classical spiritual disciplines
in addition to a commitment to Christian unity, campus prayer, and spiritual formation with the college chaplain.
Mission Statement:
The Society of St. Stephen is a fellowship of students seeking to consecrate our
lives fully to Jesus Christ by sitting at his feet, walking in step with his Spirit,
serving his people, and supporting one another in his school of discipleship.
With his help, we desire to bless the Hillsdale College community and model
for all how to follow Jesus on ancient well-ordered paths.
Many students are active members in vibrant faith community across a variety of denominations and faith practices with over 25 churches in the Greater Hillsdale Area.

Meet the Chaplain
Father Adam is an ordained minister in the Anglican Church in North America, where he has served several congregations as pastor before focusing on the chaplaincy at Hillsdale. He has masters degrees from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and Boston College School of Theology and Ministry. His ministry on campus focuses on leadership development, spiritual formation, teaching, and leading evening services in Christ Chapel. He also provides one-on-one pastoral counseling in a variety of areas, with a focus on applying the gospel to life’s challenges, learning to pray, navigating relationships, and freedom from pornography. He has been married to his wife, Katherine, since 2012, who is the Assistant Director and Accompanist for the Christ Chapel Choir. They have two children, Julian and Michaela. Adam enjoys classic movies, reading history, good conversations, and learning new things. Some of his favorite books are Divine Conspiracy (Willard), Life Together (Bonhoeffer), A Grief Observed (Lewis), Crafting a Rule of Life (Macchia), On the Incarnation (Athanasius), Holiness (Ryle), The Book of Common Prayer, and of course the Psalms.
